My nephew and his girlfriend chose MAS over Malindo Air for a trip to Kota Kinabalu after doing a simple maths. Well, they actually saved about RM30 each. Was it worth it? Danny doesn’t think so. For a start, according to him, MAS aircraft was old with crappy looking seats and the legroom was narrow. There was no entertainment console and power point to recharge your phone battery. The food was okay apparently served in a paper pack with a small plastic cup of mineral water.
The plane landed at the airport with a bump, well unless you travel frequently using different airlines, you cannot really conclude on the airlines’ pilots competency in proper landing I suppose. But I heard many people praise Malindo Air and Air Asia’s plane landings!
Another observation his girlfriend made was MAS seems to have male flight attendants compared to Malindo and Air Asia. And these “boys” now in gray uniforms look rather effeminate and Michelle said they were not as helpful as those MAS male attendants on the international routes. In fact she overheard one who said to a lady passenger that he was not supposed to help with the bag (putting it in the overhead compartment of the cabin) but only to assist and that he had a bad back. The lady shot back and said that he should not be working on the plane and sarcastically continued ” Better you be MAS CEO sitting all day long”, Haha.. . Interesting exchange, no doubt, but really being a frequent traveller with MAS, this was the first time I am hearing this kind of story.
Mas flight attendants used to be helpful especially in the business class. Not so with other airlines. I remember once flying to Balikpapan from Jakarta on Garuda Air (an Indonesian Airlines) how the female flight attendants just stood prettily with hands clasped and wouldn’t even assist an old lady with her bag. But of course that airline is not a popular choice of international travellers.
Danny and Michelle returned from East Malaysia on Malindo Air as they travelled light and booked their seats in advance and they did not fancy eating on board for the short two and a half-hour flight. The total cost was, factoring in all the hidden charges, like MAS. And they also jokingly said that they looked more hip with earphones hanging on their ears and enjoying the inflight entertainment.
