I would like to wish all my Muslim blog readers a Happy and Blessed Eid – Selamat Hari Raya AidilFitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin (outward and inward forgiveness). The beautiful greeting epitomising Malaysian Muslim culture of no eternal vengefulness.
The spirit of togetherness prevails everywhere. From fasting, prayers, celebratory feasts and visits to the graves of departed loved ones. Togetherness based on the tradition of our forefathers long before the coming of organised religions to our shores. Let’s not destroy this spirit by blindly following people who, by the accident of their fate, are out to divide us to satisfy their crave for a kind of unremitting fulfilment.
Life is too short for one-upmanship and self-glorification founded on one’s belief to the detriment of others. Labelling other forms of belief as enemies is defeating the spirit of forgiveness locally and globally.
Gratefulness is a virtue and moderation is ever the safe middle road. And let us all take that road and reject extremist views by any parties.
