As you celebrate, moderation in everything is the word. Foods, drinks and firecrackers come to mind. Time for open houses in Malaysia as our community gets together. One last hurrah before the general election for sure!

The CNY this year is not like last year (year of the Dragon). There is no usual pre CNY stock market rally and the speciality gift shop which used to stock beautiful things as presents in my city fails to do so this year. Though the festive atmosphere is there in shopping malls and supermarkets with music blaring,”lokam” mandarin plentiful and the colour red ubiquitous.

Like many things in life, we make do with what we have and be thankful that we are able to celebrate the new year in peace and harmony. And for once let us forget our political differences and enjoy the spirit of the celebration.

Let us see see beautiful things and ponder on the ugly ones as part of an imperfect life which is the reality on this planet that we call our home.

Peonies look beautiful all the same though the fresh ones would sure titillate the senses.

Oh yes, the firecrackers were released more than one hour ago and so we welcome the Snake with joy and may it bring good tidings nevertheless.
